New Year, New Project, New Tools

Happy New Year from my Basset Hound, Norbert!
I hope your 2012 is starting out to be a great one!  I believe 2012 is going to be a creative one for me because I will be tapping all of the creative potential inside of me to continually write new music. As this new project of mine has begun to unfold in the past couple of weeks, I have been collecting all the tools I will need to in order to share my music with you. I thought I would quickly highlight the tools and process I plan on using.

First the tools. The most important thing I knew I needed was a microphone of good quality. I went and talked with the recording engineer at my local music store, Hix Bros., and he helped to lead me in the right direction. I ended up purchasing the CAD GXL2200SP Recoding Bundle. I have been doing some test recordings today, and I am very happy with my purchase. Other tools I have just picked up are a boom stand, many different cables, and newly affixed sound panels in our office. We have actually completely overhauled our office, and I will dedicate a post to that at a later date. The last tool I will be using is the iPad and iRig I already owned.

Now, on to the recording process I am looking to use. All of the computers my husband and I own are PC's. I have played around with Audacity, but I much prefer and am more proficient with Garage Band. My hope is that 2012 will bring me either an iMac or Macbook Pro so I can utilize its full features, but for now I am going to master the iPad version. All my inputs will go first through the mixer and are then sent out to my iPad through the iRig. I am soaking up a lot of new recording knowledge daily, and I hope to keep getting better.

I have almost completed the first song I am going to share with you. Look for it to be posted this Tuesday as a part of the on going series, New Tune Tuesday.

What are some of your must have recording tools?
